Welcome HOBY Alumni!

You have been through the program, and probably now asking yourself, "How can I stay involved?" or maybe "Is there Life After HOBY?"  Well, look no further than this section, as it is just for you!

No matter which New York State HOBY seminar you are a former ambassador, the programs available to you as an alumnus are quite similar.  Please feel free to browse through the various pages within this section.

Here is a short outline of what you will find:

  • Alumni Associations - Many of the sites in New York have an active and functioning alumni association.  Each one works to plan events tailored to your interests, and they can generally change every year too.  For more detailed information, just contact your local alumni association.

  • Scholarships - The New York State HOBY Corporate Board is again pleased to announce the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership New York State Scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded in May 2002 to a member of the high school graduating class of 2002.  The recipient will receive $1,000 to be used toward the expenses of a post-secondary education at an accredited school. A scholarship application and more information is available in the Scholarship Section.

  • CLEWs - This would be a chance for you to assist with planning or participation in a local workshop that is a one-day version of the weekend seminar you attended.  More information is available in the CLEWS section of this Web site.  Check it out!

  • Seminar Staff - As you probably know or remember, each New York State seminar had Junior Counselors/Staff participants.  This is an immediate way for you to remain involved right after the year you were a HOBY ambassador.  Further down the road, once you are at least 21 years of age, you can become an active member of the seminar planning committee.  Did you know Hugh's original vision of his program was to have every single HOBY seminar chaired by an alumnus?  Could it be in your future?  For more information on participating in the local seminar planning committee, use the contact forms provided in this web site.

  • Volunteerism - This has become a key component of the HOBY program.  Many alumni are encouraged to actively participate in community service.  The alumni associations can help you find community projects to participate in.  For example, you could volunteer for the annual MDA telethon, visit a local children's hospital or nursing home, assist with a local environmental project, and much more.  For more ideas or information, just contact your local alumni association.
